What is Braces?
Braces are a popular Orthodontic procedure that straightens your teeth and corrects your bite with the use of an appliance that's specific to your needs.
Braces involve the temporary bonding of metal brackets onto the surface of your teeth. These brackets are connected by a metal wire and through periodic tightening and adjustments, the combination of forces acting on the brackets and wires will gradually shuffle your teeth into the proper positions.
Traditional Braces are considered the gold standard of Orthodontic treatment. At Aqua Smiles Dental, we retain the gold standard and also incorporate the latest innovative concept of "individualised Orthodontics". This means that instead of utilising a "one size fits all" approach, we specifically customise and design every single bracket to your tooth. This advanced Orthodontic tool ensures that your treatment is fast, effective and efficient.
What are the advantages of Braces?
Braces not only straighten your teeth but they can also greatly improve your smile and oral health, some key benefits include:
- Suitable for all treatment types
- The best option for complex cases
- Treatment time may be faster
- Improved patient compliance

Frequently Asked Questions
At first, Braces may feel weird as it takes a little bit of time for you to adjust to the feel of them in your mouth. It is common to feel a mild level of discomfort when Braces are first fitted and following each adjustment.
The feeling of discomfort is describes as a tightness or tenderness of the teeth and gums when chewing or biting and is a result of the dental appliance working to correct your bite and straighten your teeth. Patients with Braces may feel irritation to the lips or cheeks as it may rub against these areas.
Generally, the feeling lasts for 1-5 days. Most of our patients manage this period without painkillers or with the use of over the counter pain medication such as paracetamol. If pain persists, please contact us.
It really depends on your specific circumstances, some simple cases may take as little as a few months whilst complex cases can take up to 3 years. Most of our patients require 1 - 2 and a half years of treatment.
Costs will vary depending on the complexity of the case, patients can expect treatment to cost between $3,000 - $7,000.

Oral hygiene is very important with Braces as food and plaque make get stuck around your brackets and wires. To prevent tooth decay, gum disease and permanent markings on your teeth we recommend brushing after each meal or 3 times a day.
Sweet or acidic food and drinks can get stuck onto your Braces and encourage bacterial growth that will damage the teeth and gums (coke, bottled juices, cakes etc).
Chewy or hard foods can break your appliances and delay treatment (hard lollies, gum or chewy caramel, nuts, popcorn etc).
As your teeth move, your brackets may wear and dislodge. Should this happen please contact us and schedule an appointment to have it placed back.
If you experience anything sharp, roll the provided wax material into a tiny ball and place it firmly over the area. Eventually the wax will dislodge with time. If you're wire has broken you should contact us.
It will vary by case but generally, you will start seeing improvement after a few months.
