Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Our tooth has a hard outer layer that encases and protects a soft tissue component referred to as the "pulp". The pulp is a combination of blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue.

Tooth decay, trauma and cracks are one of the many causative factors that can result in injury to the pulp. If the damage is irreversible then this can result in inflammation, infection, pain, abscesses, swelling and death of the pulp.

Root canal treatment or endodontic treatment is an option available to patients which negates the need to permanently extract a tooth. Root canal involves the removal of bacteria by:

  • Accessing diseased pulp chamber
  • Flushing and disinfection of the canals
  • Medication
  • Cleaning of the canals with special instruments
  • Final sealing of the canal
  • Filling or crowning of the tooth to return it to appropriate shape and form

Provided that there is enough foundation within and around the tooth, root canal treatment is a very safe, highly successful and viable procedure. The tooth will then continue to function as per usual.

Our clinic provides sound and up to date technology that enables our dentists to provide you with effective and efficient root canal treatment. If you are nervous or anxious about the procedure, please feel comforted knowing that we will do all that we can to be of assistance to you.
